1702 German Copy of English Queen Anne Vigo Victory Medal. Betts-98

1702 German Copy of English Queen Anne Vigo Victory Medal. Betts-98, Eimer-395b. Silver. MS-63 (PCGS). 40.5 mm. A bit glossy with faint hairlines and a few light marks from ancient numismatic handling, yet presenting nicely at the Select Mint State grade level. The motifs are sharply struck and frosty, the fields with considerable reflectivity. Hints of champagne-pink peripheral iridescence provide further visual appeal. In his 2022 reference The Early Betts Medal Companion Christopher R. McDowell describes this type as: Only known in silver. Very rare. This unsigned medal is a copy of No. 97 by the ingenious German medalist Christian Wermuth (1661-1739). Provenance: Ex Downey-Lepczyk sale of September 1987, lot 1100; Heritage's sale of the John W. Adams Collection, January 2013 FUN Signature Auction, lot 3675; Heritage's sale of the Costa Family Collection, Part III, May 2026 Certified American Tokens & Medals Showcase Auction, lot 53034.
