"1781" (1845-1860) Lieutenant Colonel John Eager Howard, Battle of the Cowpens Medal. Paris Mint Restrike from Original Dies. Betts-595. Bronze. MS-66 BN (NGC). 46.4 mm. Edge marked (pointing hand) CUIVRE, indicating that this medal was struck at the Paris Mint between the years given. Exceptionally choice for the type with subtly reflective fields supporting frosty, fully struck design elements. A lone, minor carbon in the upper right obverse field is noted, but otherwise this premium quality Gem approaches numismatic perfection. Provenance: From the Henry Mitchell Collection. Earlier ex Presidential Coin and Antique Co., Inc.'s Dan Hansen Collection sale, November 2002, lot 451; John Kraljevich, July 2009. Click here for certification details from NGC.
