1786 Connecticut Copper. Miller 6-K, W-2690. Rarity-5. Draped Bust

1786 Connecticut Copper. Miller 6-K, W-2690. Rarity-5. Draped Bust Left. Fine-15 (PCGS). 159.6 grains. Predominantly smooth, choice surfaces are wholly unlike the often seen striated and unsightly surfaces found in the Connecticut series. Richly original autumn-orange brown and olive-copper patina greets the viewer from both sides, the reverse a bit darker overall than the obverse. Hallmarking this piece for research purposes are a few minor circulation marks, including some parallel marks around the letter C in AUCTORI, a small divot in front of the effigy's chin, and a rim bruise at 12 o'clock on the obverse, while the reverse is wholly free of all flaws but the natural, thin planchet line that runs around 75% of the circumference. Although not as sharp as other examples of this Miller number that we have handled, including the Ford coin, this piece has its premium surface quality to offer and will be hotly contested, as such. Provenance: From the John Bolger Collection. Earlier ex Ted Craige, date not recorded; out (Stack's) Minot Collection sale, May 2008, lot 66; Anthony Terranova, July 2008. PCGS# 686368. BASE PCGS# 337. NGC ID: 2B2J. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
