1787 Connecticut Copper. Miller 29.2-o, W-3165. Rarity-5. Draped Bust

1787 Connecticut Copper. Miller 29.2-o, W-3165. Rarity-5. Draped Bust Left. VF-30 (PCGS). CAC. 135.8 grains. Attractively original surfaces exhibit highlights of olive and rose to dominant golden-orange brown patina. Obverse impression drawn to 5 o'clock with the border at lower right into the effigy's bust, center soft due to confluence of strike weakness and wear, letter E in CONNEC very faint due to die lapping. The reverse is better centered, border approaching tops of letters in ET LIB, bottoms of date digits soft, center likewise with a few slanting planchet fissures at seated figure's midsection and legs. The only post-production blemishes of note are several faint field marks at left obverse, below the chin, but as these are easily overlooked the in-hand appearance is pleasingly smooth overall. Provenance: From the Emerald Coast Collection. Earlier ex S.H. and H. Chapman's sale of the John G. Mills Collection, April 1904, lot 289; Hillyer C. Ryder; Eric P. Newman; Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society; Heritage's sale of the Eric P. Newman Collection, Part IV, May 2014, lot 30104, as NGC VF-20 BN. PCGS# 370. NGC ID: 2B2X.
