1788 Connecticut Copper. Miller 11-G, W-4510. Rarity-2. Mailed Bust Left. EF-40 (PCGS). 120.1 grains. Nice hard olive-brown surfaces are uncommonly smooth and glossy in a lightly circulated Connecticut copper irrespective of Miller number. There are no troublesome flan flaws or significant handling marks, obverse with a few small swirls of crimson red associated with old, light surface scale that is hardly detracting. The obverse is off center to 7 o'clock with the lower left border into the end of the effigy's chain mail, reverse rotated a few degrees counterclockwise from coin alignment and off center to 12 o'clock with the upper border well into the seated figure's head and pole hand, flanking devices, and the letters in ET LIB. Provenance: From the John Bolger Collection. Earlier ex Don Mituzas; our (Stack's) sale of the Robison Collection, May 1982 Greater New York Numismatic Convention Sale, lot 52; McCawley-Grellman's John M. Griffee Sale, October 1995, lot 204. PCGS# 687263. BASE PCGS# 403. NGC ID: 2B3B. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
