1794 Liberty Cap Cent. S-59, B-57. Rarity-3. Head of 1794. MS-62 BN

Famous 1794 S-59 Cent 1794 Liberty Cap Cent. S-59, B-57. Rarity-3. Head of 1794. MS-62 BN (PCGS). CAC. Breen Die State V, Heck DS6. Offered is one of the finest, best known survivors from the 1794 Sheldon-59 dies. It is a frosty, hard, generally tight example with light olive tinting to otherwise tan-brown patina. Hints of pale pink from faded down mint color are discernible here and there around and within many of the design elements, more prominently on the reverse. The strike is nicely centered and sharply executed for all major design elements, both sides free of wear to readily uphold the validity of the PCGS-assigned, CAC-endorsed grade. There are some blemishes, nonetheless, and these include a thin, meandering planchet fissure from behind Liberty's eye down into the cheek, an even thinner fissure behind the bottom of the cap, a few planchet voids in the date area, and a tiny, dull nick in the field off Liberty's nose. Earlier catalogers referenced a few shallow rim bruises on both sides - these are barely perceptible through the PCGS holder, which is helped by the fact that a few of these have been lightly smoothed to improve the already overall strong eye appeal of this coin. Bill Noyes assigned an EAC grade of AU55, net VF30 for this piece, and ranks it tied for CC#10 in his census; Del Bland calls it EAC AU55, net EF40, tied for CC#5.
