ice AU 1796 Large Date, Small Letters Bust Dollar 1796 Draped Bust Silver Dollar. BB-65, B-5. Rarity-2. Large Date, Small Letters. AU-50 (PCGS). BB Die State IV, Salyards Die State j. If the Mint State example offered in the preceding lot is too rich for one's blood, the PCGS AU-50 highlighted here is also an uncommonly high grade, numismatically significant survivor from the BB-65 dies. Stars 1 through 4 along the lower left obverse border are more or less bluntly struck, but otherwise we note overall bold to sharp detail in a lightly circulated early dollar. Much frosty luster persists, especially in the protected areas around the design elements, which light up the generally golden-gray surfaces as the coin rotates into direct lighting. Blushes of deeper olive and russet patina engage the peripheries, most prominently at lower reverse, the eye appeal overall pleasing and sure to impress discerning collectors. PCGS# 6861.
