1857-O Liberty Head Half Eagle. Winter-1. AU-58 (NGC).

1857-O Liberty Head Half Eagle. Winter-1. AU-58 (NGC). This handsome piece is warmly colored in blended orange-gold and deep honey-olive shades. Sharply defined overall with glints of semi-prooflike reflectivity shining forth from the protected areas around the design elements. The 1857-O is the last in the trio of rare New Orleans Mint half eagles that commenced with the 1855-O. Although not quite as rare as either the 1855-O or 1856-O in an absolute sense, the 1857-O is more challenging to locate in high grades (AU and Mint State). This condition rarity NGC AU-58 is a find for the astute Southern gold enthusiast. NGC Census: 9; 3 finer (all MS-61). The corresponding PCGS Population is 7/5 (MS-63 finest). PCGS# 8274. NGC ID: 25V5. Click here for certification details from NGC.
