1961 Bodegas Campo Viejo (x3) & 1978 Bodegas Muga (x3) - Rioja Reserva

A magnificent lot of 6 bottles of historic wines from the D.O.Ca. Rioja, sourced from two extraordinary Spanish wineries: 3 bottles – “CAMPO VIEJO Gran Reserva 1961” This is the first vintage in the history of Bodegas Campo Viejo, one of Spain's most important wineries, located in Logroño. The bottles bear the seal of origin guarantee from the Rioja Regulatory Council: bottle number 042601 belongs to the initial batches labeled for distribution and was sold between 1970 and 1971. Bottles 120756 and 120833, which have sequential numbers, are part of the same bottling and labeling batch; they were sold together during 1972. Purchased directly from the Campo Viejo winery itself in successive batches starting in 1973, these bottles have remained in storage throughout, well-preserved and in excellent condition after 50 years of aging: original labels are intact and legible, capsules are intact, numbered seals and wire mesh are complete, and they feature original corks and high fill levels. A clear, brilliant wine with a ruby color showing brown and orange hues; notes of fine wood; and the powerful aromas and flavors characteristic of very traditional Rioja... Varietals: 80% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacha, Mazuelo, and Graciano. Fermentation: 18 months; aging: 36–48 months; bottled between June 1967 and February 1968; bottle aging: 3 years. Released to the market in the early 1970s. 3 bottles - “MUGA Crianza 1978”. Produced by Bodegas Muga, located in the historic Station District of Haro (La Rioja Alta) and producers of some of the region's finest wines. A distinctive feature of this winery is the use of American oak casks for fermenting its wines. Purchased in several batches from a wholesale wine and spirits supplier in the mid-1980s, these bottles have been carefully cellared in their original 12-bottle cases for 40 years; they feature impeccable labels, intact capsules, original corks, and excellent fill levels. The wine is clear and brilliant, displaying a lovely ruby color with subtle brick-red hues and orange highlights; the aromas evoke spices and red fruit, accompanied by a notable presence of fine oak. The winery manufactures and toasts its own oak barrels, in which these *Crianza* wines age for 24 months, followed by a year of bottle aging. With a total aging period of 36 months, the wine is equivalent to a *Reserva* under current D.O.Ca. Rioja standards. Varietal composition: 70% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacha, and 10% Mazuelo and Graciano. Released to the market in 1981/82. *** Shipment, securely packed in a sustainable box featuring individual insulating containers for each bottle—specially designed for international transport—with tracking and insurance included. *** As a private collector, I ship only to destinations within the European Union mainland. I do not ship to any territory requiring customs documentation.
