1978 Ducati 900 Super Sport

Few motorcycles capture the romance of 1970s Italian performance like the Ducati 900 Super Sport. Descended from the legendary 750 Super Sport and Ducati’s triumphant showing at the 1972 Imola 200, the 900 SS combined the marque’s 864 cc bevel-drive V-twin and desmodromic valve gear with purposeful styling and an uncompromising sporting chassis. The 1978 model year marked an important stage in the 900 SS’s development, with Bosch electronic ignition introduced to improve reliability. Early examples featured an elegant silver and blue livery, before the black and gold scheme was adopted. Bearing frame no. DM860SS*087620 and engine no. DM860 087843, the motorcycle offered here falls within the serial-number range attributed to the early 1978 Bosch-ignition series. For many years, it belonged to a Northern California enthusiast and still displays a period California license plate. Attractively presented and described as being in good, usable condition, it is accompanied by its original Conti mufflers, a spare set of Speedline magnesium wheels, and owner’s, workshop, and parts manuals. Combining handsome early-series colors, desirable mechanical specification, and long-term California provenance, this 900 Super Sport offers an evocative expression of the classic bevel-drive Ducati. Please note that this vehicle is titled as 087620. car
