At that time, the current owner Clemente Santi saw one of his Sangiovese, the grape he studied and worked on for a long time, awarded at the Paris Universal Exposition in 1867. Two years later, at a local competition in Montepulciano, his wine “Brunello” distinguished itself with a gold medal. Today, time flows, the wine too, but the praise does not fade. The 26-hectare estate magnifies Sangiovese and masters the art of long aging, in the pure local tradition. The wine rests between 12 months (for Rosso) and 36 months (for Riserva) in Slavonian oak foudres (containers ranging from 10 to 140 hectolitres). A further bottle aging then refines the tannins of this unique grape. The wines are endowed with incredible elegance and finesse. About the cuvée Since 1888, the year of the first Brunello di Montalcino vintage, the Biondi-Santi estate, a reference for this appellation, has continued to produce great wines, whenever the vintage allows. The grapes come from the estate’s 26 hectares. Cultivated with respect for the environment and harvested by hand, the grapes ferment in concrete tanks before being aged for 24 months in large Slavonian oak casks, following tradition. Finally, a bottle aging finishes refining this great wine before it goes to market. On tasting, it is a wine of great power, yet it maintains a fine balance and a elegance worthy of the world's greatest. The wine’s aroma unfolds around black fruits (black cherry), spices, and blood orange. Its aging potential is immense: several decades will suit it perfectly.
