Alle Auktionen / Wine & Spirits / 1988 Château l’Evangile - Pomerol - 1 Bottle (0.75L)
Château l' Évangile 1988 Although Pomerol wines have never been classified, Château L'Évangile is undoubtedly among the best wines in the appellation. The estate was created in the middle of the 18th century by a Libourne family, the Léglise, who contributed to the constitution of the Pomerol vineyard, alongside the families that own the domains of Petrus (Arnaud family), La Conseillante (Catherine Conseillant) and Trotanoy (Giraud family). Until then called Fazilleau, the estate took the name of L'Évangile at the very beginning of the 19th century, under the leadership of the lawyer Isambert, who remained its owner until 1862. Bought by Paul Chaperon, Château L'Évangile remained within the fold of his descendants, the Ducasse, until 1990. Since that date, the Lafite Rothschild team has gradually regained control of the estate. The former owners were already perfectly aware of the remarkable potential of this exceptional terroir, consisting of a deep and heterogeneous subsoil of gravels intermingled with clay and sand. Even the formidable frosts of the winter of 1956 could not quite bring the vineyard of Château L'Évangile to its knees. Louis Ducasse took over the estate still depleted, renewed the vineyard and elevated it in a few years to its best level. A level that would not waver, even after his death in 1982, since his wife followed with remarkable tenacity. Since 1990, the estate has been the property of the Barons de Rothschild group, which dedicates all the necessary attention and investments to it. For more information on the domaine, read our article on the iDealwine blog.
