- Parker Points: 94/100 BAROLO Riserva 92/100 BARBARESCO Riserva - Fill level (Neck) - Label condition (Excellent label) - Capsule condition (Excellent) - 750 ml - Bottling: At MARCHESI DI BAROLO estate - Ready to drink or to age further - Shipping method: La Poste (Colissimo etc.) Marchesi di Barolo is one of the most respected names in Piedmont, its history closely linked to the development and international recognition of Barolo and the Langhe region. The estate is renowned for its commitment to traditional winemaking methods, the careful expression of its terroir, and wines of consistent elegance that testify to the nobility of Nebbiolo and the wine heritage of northern Italy. BAROLO Riserva: What kind of wine is it? Marchesi di Barolo Barolo Riserva is a quiet red wine made from Nebbiolo grapes, an authentic expression of Barolo Riserva. Its aromatic profile opens with clear notes of violet and rose, mingled with cinnamon and nutmeg, then develops into tertiary aromas of tobacco, leather, and truffle. On the palate, it reveals itself dry, elegant, and austere, supported by an abundant yet incredibly silky tannic structure that can envelop the sip in harmony. Its solid structure makes it the ideal match for powerful and rich dishes, especially braised red meats, very aged cheeses, and traditional egg pasta with truffle. How it is produced The winemaking starts with destalking and gentle crushing, practices aimed at extracting only the noblest and most aromatic portion of the skins. Temperature-controlled fermentation is followed by skin contact of about ten days, supported by gentle remontage. After pressing, the wine is transferred to special cement-lined vats isolated with corks, ideal for retaining heat and favoring spontaneous malolactic fermentation. The long maturation process takes place for three years in large Slavonian oak casks, followed by an additional resting period that definitively stabilizes the complex sensory structure. History and anecdotes Founded in 1806 in the heart of the Langhe, the Marchesi di Barolo winery highlights Nebbiolo by creating wines with exceptional longevity. The illustrious Barolo DOCG Riserva 2016 embodies this heritage, aging for three years in large Slavonian oak barrels before a long bottle rest. Placed on the market six years after the harvest under the direction of oenologist Marco Marsili, this noble red has earned prestigious international distinctions that attest to its absolute excellence and timeless charm. BARBARESCO Riserva: What kind of wine is it? Barbaresco Riserva della Casa, produced by Marchesi di Barolo, is an excellent Piedmontese red wine with Controlled and Guaranteed Designation of Origin, made from Nebbiolo grapes. It presents a garnet-red robe and an ethereal and complex aroma profile, characterized by notes of tobacco, raspberry, violet, and spices, enriched by the characteristic scent of tar. On the palate, it is round and elegant, supported by soft and balanced tannins that underscore its solid structure, enriched by aging in oak casks. To fully appreciate its character, serve it between 16 and 18 degrees Celsius, paired with porcini pasta dishes, braised meats, and aged cheeses. Where does it come from This wine was born in Piedmont, in the Barbaresco area, in the town of Neive. The vineyards grow on compact clay-limestone, impermeable soils that force the roots to descend in search of water. This condition favors the development of loose bunches with small berries, guaranteeing high mineral concentration. Being a Riserva, the wine undergoes a aging process of at least five years and has a potential to evolve that can exceed twenty years. How it is produced Harvests are carried out manually to ensure a rigorous selection of the grape clusters. After de-stalking, fermentation at controlled temperature occurs in steel vats, with about fifteen days of skin contact and frequent remontage for optimal color and aroma extraction. Subsequently, the wine rests in vitrified concrete tanks before aging in Slavonian and French oak casks, where it reaches its perfect harmony. The production cycle ends with a long final aging before commercialization. History and curiosities The label of this wine stands out with illustrations of historic buildings and an old crest, elements that add a touch of tradition and heritage. Among the most interesting curiosities, this Barbaresco is released only after a minimum aging of five years from the harvest and has aging potential in the cellar that can exceed twenty years. Its value is also confirmed by prestigious distinctions received: 92 points from Wine Spectator and 91 points from Wine Enthusiast.
