2019 Ermanno Costa, "Alba" - Barolo - 5 Bottles (0.75L)

Ermanno Costa, Barolo "Alba" 2019 DESCRIZIONE Producer: Ermanno Costa Wine: Barolo "Alba" Vintage: 2019 Number of bottles: 5 Size: 0.75L Grapes: 100% Nebbiolo Aging: 20 months in 2,000 liter French oak barrels Alc.: 14,5% The 2021 Alba DOC by Ermanno Costa presents as a deep ruby red, already showing elegant garnet hues. The nose is expansive and unfolds in layers: ripe cherry, blackberry, raspberry, and plum mingle with notes of violet and dried rose, followed by hints of licorice, tobacco, and fine spices. With aeration, subtle balsamic nuances emerge, alongside a delicate toasted quality that is seamlessly integrated into the fruit. On the palate, the wine perfectly showcases the interplay between its two grape varieties: Nebbiolo contributes structure, depth, and a precise tannic texture, while Barbera imparts juiciness and a vibrant freshness that keeps the sip dynamic. The extended maturation softens any rough edges without diminishing the wine’s energy, leading to a persistent, dry, and spicy finish, with lingering echoes of red fruit, licorice, and forest floor. It is an original and authoritative Piedmontese red, striking a masterful balance between elegance and generosity.
