2021 Frescobaldi

Tenuta Calimaia 2021 represents the return of the historic Frescobaldi family to Montepulciano, in one of the traditional areas best suited for producing Vino Nobile. The estate is located on the hills between Val di Chiana and Val d'Orcia, in the Cervognano area. The vineyards surround the Monteliscione hill at about 300 meters above sea level. The soils, of Pliocene origin and characterized by a significant clay content, are particularly suitable for growing Sangiovese, locally called Prugnolo Gentile, and contribute to the wine's structure, tannic component, and aging potential. The 2021 vintage is composed of 90% Sangiovese (Prugnolo Gentile) and 10% complementary red grape varieties. The grapes are hand-harvested and vinified in stainless steel at a controlled temperature, with spontaneous fermentation. The wine matures for 24 months in 50 hl oak barrels, followed by a further 4 months of bottle aging. In the glass it presents an intense ruby red color. The bouquet is predominantly fruity, with elegant notes of sour cherry, currant, cherry and raspberry, accompanied by aromatic herbs and nuanced spicy hints of pepper, cloves, and cardamom. On the palate it is broad, fresh and balanced, with a well-defined tannic texture and a long aromatic persistence. Lot of 6 bottles of 0.75 L, as shown in the photographs.
