2023 Domaine Georges Vernay

Discover Condrieu Les Terrasses de l’Empire 2023, an emblematic cuvée of Domaine Georges Vernay, a benchmark reference of the Condrieu appellation in the Northern Rhône Valley. This dry white wine is produced exclusively from the Viognier grape, the queen variety of the appellation, grown on steep plots with granitic soils, where vineyard work is done manually. The 2023 vintage precisely expresses the terroir signature: a seductive and refined nose, carried by notes of white peach, ripe apricot, white flowers and fine hints of candied citrus. On the palate, the attack is broad and velvety, without heaviness. The wine reveals a fine roundness, a silky texture, then a mineral freshness that shapes the finish and prolongs the aromatic persistence. Aged mainly in oak vats on lees, with a small portion in barrel, Les Terrasses de l’Empire preserves the balance between the power of Viognier, the purity of the fruit and the elegance of Condrieu's terroir. It is a wine of character, both gourmet and precise, representative of the savoir-faire of Domaine Georges Vernay. Food pairing: this Condrieu will pair remarkably with a fish in sauce, monkfish à l’américaine, creamy poultry, roasted guinea fowl, a mushroom risotto or a goat cheese with affinage. Serve at 10–12 °C to preserve its freshness and aromatic expression. Potential for aging: to be enjoyed today for its fruit, it can also develop favorably for about 5 to 8 years in the cellar, gradually unlocking more complex notes of candied fruits, honey and gentle spices.
