2023 Prunotto Pian Romualdo Barbera d'Alba - Piedmont - 6 Bottles (0.75L)

An Outstanding Expression of Piedmontese Terroir by Prunotto (Antinori) Up for auction is a magnificent bottle of Barbera d'Alba "Pian Romualdo" 2023 from the historical Prunotto estate, managed with absolute excellence by the Marchesi Antinori family. First produced in 1961, Pian Romualdo is a legendary Cru coming from the prestigious Monforte d'Alba area, where the extreme day-night temperature fluctuations give the Barbera grape an incredible aromatic complexity and a vibrant, crisp freshness. The 2023 Vintage & Winemaking: The 2023 vintage yielded lower quantities but exceptional quality, producing grapes with spectacular concentration. Harvested strictly by hand, the wine underwent meticulous maceration followed by 16 months of aging in a combination of small and large French oak barrels, followed by substantial bottle aging to refine its complex structure. Tasting Notes: Appearance: Intense, deep ruby red. Nose: Rich, complex, and layered. Vibrant aromas of ripe blackberries, wild strawberries, and red fruit jam, elegantly intertwined with spicy hints of vanilla, cinnamon, and a subtle touch of green pepper. Palate: Generous, dense, and beautifully balanced. The typical, refreshing acidity of Barbera perfectly supports a silky, melting texture, leading into a long, mineral finish dominated by dark fruits and savory limestone nuances. Why bid on this lot? This is not just a standard Barbera; it is a highly cellar-worthy Cru backed by the winemaking prestige of Antinori. Perfect to enjoy now with rich Piedmontese dishes (roasts, truffles, aged cheeses) or to lay down in your cellar to let its complexity evolve beautifully over the next decade.
