A. Allan (18th century) Portrait miniature of a gentleman, by repute Henry Streatfeild (1679-1747), the sitter depicted wearing a full wig, white stock and red waistcoat, according to details verso, inscribed "A. Allan Pinxit" and dated 1729, oil on copper, 8cm x 6.5cm (oval), mounted with a contemporary fragment of brocade fabric, Provenance: The Streatfeild Collection. Note: The Streatfeilds were prominent landowners in Kent and particularly notable for their association with Chiddingstone Castle. By tradition, the first son of each generation of Streatfeilds was named Henry. The Henry in this portrait married Elizabeth Beard of Rottingdean in 1704.
