A CARVED MAHOGANY TRIPOD TABLE IN THE MANNER OF THOMAS CHIPPENDALE, CIRCA 1770 AND LATER The tilt top with a hinge and brass catch 70cm high, 61cm diameter Please note, the dating for this lot has been updated and differs from the printed catalogue, this tripod table is circa 1770 and later. Condition Report: Marks, scratches, wear and abrasions and some fading comensurate with age and use Some old chips and splits comensurate with age and use. Some minor old repairs, some small losses. Pleasing figuring to the timber of the top. One leg has two adjacent old breaks at the lower part towards the foot. One other leg has two adjacent old breaks towards the centre of the leg. These breaks have been glued and a later screwed in metal bracket to the underside of each leg to secure. The block immediately attached to the top of the stem of the table is slightly loose in position, it may be associated to the stem. That block in turn is screwed to another thin block. This suggests that elements of the table are associated to eachother. Some of the screws to the bearers to the underside of the top are replacements. Following further inspection of the carving of the base, it is finely executed but is possibly 19th century in date. Later shaped blocks have been fitted to the underside and into the base of the feet (to heighten) Please note, there is a saleroom notice for this lot as a result of the above notes : A CARVED MAHOGANY TRIPOD TABLE, CIRCA 1770 AND LATER Despite the likely alterations over time this is a handsome table that stands well in the room.
