A GEORGE I WALNUT AND GREEN LEATHER UPHOLSTERED ARMCHAIR, CIRCA 1725

A GEORGE I WALNUT AND GREEN LEATHER UPHOLSTERED ARMCHAIR, CIRCA 1725

A GEORGE I WALNUT AND GREEN LEATHER UPHOLSTERED ARMCHAIR CIRCA 1725 109cm high, 70cm wide, 61.5cm deep Provenance: Loaned to the department store Alsterhaus in Hamburg when Prince Charles and Princess Diana signed a guest book during their royal tour of West Germany in November 1987. Newspaper copies of the event are available with this lot. Condition Report: Marks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Some splits, chips and losses. The green leather upholstery with some marking, scratching and minor cracking, the leather to the seat has been well worn, however retains a pleasant colour and is free from tears. The shepherds crook arms have some water marking and fading, but the swan handles are elegant and display a pleasing patina. Both arms have some movement and flex and may benefit from the attention of a qualified restorer. The four corner blocks to the underside appear to be later additions. Some old repairs, notably to both front legs, please see images. Some filler use to the splits on the front legs. Some repairs to the joints of the arms Some minor evidence of old worm. A very elegant chair with important provenance. Please see all additional images as a visual reference to this report, they are a vital part of this report.
