A Hamburg silver 'Turk's head' jug

A Hamburg silver 'Turk's head' jug Pear-form vessel on a flat base with a curved ebony handle. The narrow pointed spout decorated with repoussé foliage, shells and C-scrolls. The domed hinged lid with corresponding decor and a cast flower finial. An engraved dedication beneath the base: “C.F.V. & E.V. from A.V., 15 September 1860.” Height 28.5 cm; weight 880 g. Marks of Jacob Barthels, around 1760.
