A PAIR OF GEORGE III MAHOGANY AND PAINTED HALL CHAIRS, EARLY 19TH CENTURY

A PAIR OF GEORGE III MAHOGANY AND PAINTED HALL CHAIRS EARLY 19TH CENTURY Each scroll carved shaped back painted with a traditional heraldic depiction of a British St. Edwards crown above a shaped seat with ring turned legs, each stamped to the seat rail with the Royal cypher G.R.V beneath a crown. 89cm high, 40cm wide, 46cm deep Condition Report: Suturally sound and ready to use. Areas of surface scratching, marking, discoloration, rubbing and ware are consistent with age and use. Areas of minor denting and nocks, especially to the legs. One chair has two sections of replaced timber to the back of the seats where they join the upright of the back. The reverse side of the back shows areas of repair with 10 dowl hold, and some repaired splitting and cracks to the timber. The reverse side of the back to the other chair shows 5 dowl holes. The painted surfaces appear consistent. One char has a slightly darker appears to the timber of one back. The other chair has a sectional repair to the front seat rail beside the join to the top of the leg. One chair has later blocks applied to the inside of the seat rial, the other shows glue deposits wear block were formally in place.
