Alle Auktionen / Porzellan & Keramik / A Plate with Decoration after Adam Friedrich von Löwenfinck, Meissen, c. 1740

porcelain, slightly recessed cavetto, the rim moulded with ‘alt-ozier’ moulding, the well with imaginative decoration in purple camaieu, partly heightened in gold, depicting a fabulous creature on a landscape island, with ‘indianische Blumen’ and individual insects in the well and on the rim, gilt rim, diameter 24 cm, underglaze-blue crossed-swords mark with turner’s no., painted decoration minimally rubbed Alongside Johann Gregorius Höroldt and Christian Friedrich Herold, von Löwenfinck ranks among the iconic painters of the Meissen porcelain manufactory, whose sometimes expressive and highly individual styles influenced generations of porcelain painters. Löwenfinck’s style is distinguished by his masterful command of purple camaieu and his predilection for East Asian fabulous creatures.
