A RARE AND UNUSUAL SILK KOUM KAPI RUG, ISTANBUL, TURKEY, CIRCA 1910

A RARE AND UNUSUAL SILK KOUM KAPI RUG ISTANBUL, TURKEY, CIRCA 1910 approximately 281 x 171cm Condition Report: Rug with wear overall. Some fading in colours across the rug, notably to the border and middle of central field. There is a section spanning across the entirety of the rug, towards the bottom where the pattern ‘jumps’ slightly, and shows an inconsistency in the weaving, please see images. Demonstrating 'siouf' technique where there are flatwoven areas among the raised 'piled' areas. The ‘pile’ has been worn down across much of the carpet with some sections to the top and bottoms still displaying this technique. Some neat, scattered old repairs. The longest bound edges are neat with some very minor fraying and separation in places. Despite the wear, this remains an incredibly high-quality rug in full silk with pleasing subject and design.
