A substantial folk art carved wood trade or tavern figure representing Robin Hood, shown standing accompanied by a hound upon an integral rectangular base, the figure is dressed in deliberately historicising costume, comprising a tall plumed cap, belted tunic, breeches, high boots and pronounced angular cuffs, a multi-pointed star is carved on the breast and a heavy chain or ceremonial collar crosses the torso, from which hangs a stylised horn, the figure holds a tall longbow in his right hand and a group of arrows in his left, their shafts extending almost to the ground, he hound stands closely beside him, the integral base is carved with dense foliate and woodland detail interspersed with small emblematic devices, with initials RH carved into the front of the base, 48cm high, probably England, circa 1830
