Abbasid Caliphate. 750-1258 AD. Fals. Lot of 3. Obv: لا اله الا الله وحده (There is no God but Allah). Rev: محمد رسول الله (Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah). Item details: — 18 mm / 1.91 g — 20 mm / 4.12 g — 20 mm / 3.72 g The Abbasid Caliphate, founded in 750 AD by Abu al-Abbas al-Saffah, succeeded the Umayyads and established Baghdad as its capital. Claiming descent from al-Abbas, Muhammad’s uncle, it expanded inclusion of non-Arab Muslims and fostered the Islamic Golden Age in science, medicine, philosophy, literature, and art. Political fragmentation weakened its rule, and the Mongol sack of Baghdad in 1258 AD ended the caliphate, though symbolic authority continued in Cairo.
