The triptych combines Edo-period woodblock prints, Sumi-e ink painting, vintage manga and Japanese folklore. Intricate engraved textures, dramatic monochrome contrasts and carefully balanced compositions create the appearance of rediscovered illustrations from an imaginary Japanese warrior chronicle. About the artist Æ (Spain, b. 1977) holds degrees in Digital Design & Multimedia Technologies (Barcelona, 2004) and East Asian Studies. His work combines Japanese visual culture, vintage manga, minimalism and experimental graphic design. His artworks are held in private collections across more than 30 countries.
