Conceived as a minimalist, constructivist sunset, the composition explores the polarity between light and shadow through a precise arrangement of geometric forms and a striking contrast between warm orange, deep blue, black and white. A circular motif evokes a dark sun suspended against an intense orange sky, while a sequence of ascending rectangular structures introduces a sense of architectural rhythm, depth and visual progression. The work plays with the ambiguity between darkness and luminosity, challenging the idea that these qualities are mutually exclusive opposites. Instead, light and shadow are approached as relative, interdependent and complementary aspects of a shared reality. Neither exists in isolation; each acquires meaning through its relationship with the other. Through its reduced visual language, Black Hole Sun transforms the image of a sunset into an exploration of duality, perception and balance. The geometric precision of the composition contrasts with the ambiguity of its central image, creating a tension between order and interpretation. The result is an architectural, almost emblematic landscape that invites the viewer to reconsider the boundaries between opposing visual states. The title is inspired by Black Hole Sun, the song by American rock band Soundgarden. Its evocative title provides a point of departure for the painting, bringing together the familiar image of the sun with the darkness suggested by a black hole. This paradox resonates with the work's central theme: light and darkness are not simply separate conditions, but interrelated elements whose meaning emerges through their coexistence. Originality and signature This is a unique, original painting, not a print or reproduction. It is signed on the reverse of the canvas, where an inscription records the title, date, place and exact time of completion. Condition and shipping The artwork is in excellent condition, with no known defects. The full canvas measures 100 × 80 cm, including an additional 10 cm on each side for stretching. The intended visible image area is 90 × 70 cm once mounted on a suitable stretcher. The painting will be shipped rolled for transport. It is sold without stretcher bars or a frame, so the buyer will need to arrange stretching and framing after delivery.
