Alessi - Alessandro Mendini

Iconic Anna G. corkscrew in AlkiPaper* and chromed zamak designed by Alessandro Mendini and decorated by StudioTemp for ALESSI The creative trio of Studio Temp draws from the deep pool of street art to offer a contemporary and cryptic interpretation of the iconic corkscrew designed by Alessandro Mendini. The proposed graphics are the offspring of a personal imprinting rich in eclectic cues, ranging from road signs to modern techniques for protecting sensitive data. The decoration includes phosphorescent elements that become legible only in the dark. Since production began in 1994, this corkscrew has become an iconic and sought-after bestseller. “I remember when, as a child, my grandmother at the table opened the bottle of wine; it always seemed to me a beautiful performance, a kind of ritual ballet: the head turning, the arms rising and falling […] I decided then to create an anthropomorphic object. I drew a ballerina.” Thus Alessandro Mendini recounts the birth of the Anna G. corkscrew. It was Alberto Alessi who, observing the project, noted the resemblance with a designer friend of Mendini: “it’s obvious that subliminally I had painted a portrait of Anna,” the author acknowledged, “she had been the muse.” *AlkiPaper is a patented biocomposite based on paper, other natural-origin raw materials, and functional components.
