Alle Auktionen / Kunst und Drucke / Alphonse Marie Mucha - “La Danse, 1898”.
Marie Alphonse Mucha: Title: “The Dance, 1898”. Signed on the plate. Colored offset lithograph, issued in 1997 by Taschen. Condition: the work is in very good condition. Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939) is one of the undisputed masters of Art Nouveau and a foundational figure in the history of decorative modern art. His instantly recognizable style, characterized by elegant female figures, flowing lines, ornamental halos and rich botanical motifs, has become synonymous with fin-de-siècle Paris and the rise of graphic art as a consolidated discipline. Mucha's works enjoy lasting international demand, with high prices for posters, lithographs and decorative panels, which appeal just as much to fine-art lovers, design enthusiasts and interior stylists. From 1896, after the great success of his posters, Mucha was invited by the printer F. Champenois, with whom he closely collaborated, to create so-called Panneaux décoratifs. These works were printed on sturdy paper or silk and framed as paintings or used as decorative screens. They were hugely fashionable. Just as with posters, Mucha built on the expressive power of the two-dimensional form. His subjects – without exception female – personify concepts and themes. Although Mucha generally adopted a static approach to his subjects in most of his work, he shows in "The Dance" that he was indeed capable of capturing movement and characterizing it with typical gestures. The inspiration for this particular motif was possibly the American dancer Loïe Fuller, who was then making a splash in Paris with her excentric "Dance of the Veils" and who inspired numerous artists, from Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec to Raoul Larche. From a market and collecting perspective, Mucha stands alongside other highly sought-after names from modern and decorative art, such as Gustav Klimt, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Egon Schiele and Aubrey Beardsley, while he also resonates with collectors of broader modern and contemporary icons such as Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Keith Haring, Banksy and Jeff Koons. His work often appears in search results related to Art Nouveau interiors, vintage posters, luxury décor, Belle Époque aesthetics, history of graphic design and collectible prints. Never framed and kept in a dark archival storage between protective acid-free paper. The shown photos are part of the description.
