ALPINO, LUSTROUS HEMATITE on ALBITE and GREEN CHLORITE...

From our selection of collectible minerals, we present a rare group of hematite crystals with albite and chlorite from the Cavradi throat, in the Val Curnera, Switzerland. Moreover, it is characterized by the vivid color contrast between the shining black, metallic hematite crystals, the white tabular albite blades, and the green chlorite inclusions dotting the matrix, elements that enhance its aesthetic value and mineralogical significance. The specimen stands out for the quality of crystallization and for the overall aesthetic balance, with features that highlight its natural structure and visual impact. Alpine fissures, such as Cavradi’s throat, form during the uplift of the Alps: low-temperature hydrothermal fluids circulate in cavities of metamorphic rock, slowly depositing well-formed crystals of quartz, albite, hematite, and chlorite. The glossy black color of hematite (Fe2O3) is due to the crystal structure of iron oxide, which in laminar habit takes the typical mirror-like appearance known as 'specular hematite'. Albite, a sodium feldspar, often grows in these environments with the characteristic tabular habit observable in this specimen, while chlorite, a iron- and magnesium-rich phyllosilicate, provides the characteristic greenish hues. This is an ideal specimen for mineral collections, display, and for those who appreciate the natural beauty of minerals, also within the realm of crystal therapy and lithotherapy, according to the properties traditionally associated with the mineral species. All minerals are 100% natural and untreated, except for rare exceptions always noted in the description. Photographs are taken with professional lighting to best highlight colors and details; however, slight variations in shade may occur depending on the device or ambient light.
