Amazonia - Lot with 3 books - 1988-2012

Amazonia: 3 books; the lot includes: Ana Maria de Moraes Belluzzo/Marta Rosa Amoroso/Nicolau Sevcenko/Valéria Piccoli: Do Contato au Confronto – The Conquest of Guarapuava in the 18th Century – Expomus, completed printing in September 2003, limited to 4,000 copies. In-4to, 24 x 32 cm., publisher's hardcover binding, illustrated dust jacket, 143 pages, entirely and richly illustrated in color from the Beatriz and Màrio Pimenta Camargo collection; text in Portuguese and French; condition: excellent. Very rare and sought after. + Marianne Pourtal Sourrieu (edited by): Plumes Amérindiennes - Guyana – Don Dr Marcel Heckenroth - Marseille, M.A.A.O.A./Snoek 2012 In-4°, 21 x 28 cm, paperback with flaps, still in shrink wrap, 127 pages, richly illustrated in color and in black and white, condition: like new. In 2008, the Museum of African, Oceanian, and American Indian Arts, Marseille, received a donation of magnificent feather adornments, collected among the Wayampi Amerindians, Guyana, by Dr. Marcel Heckenroth, during his tours on the Oyapock, between 1939 and 1942. It is in the art of the feather that the refinement of the aesthetics of Amazonian peoples expresses itself: these feather adornments are exceptional, both for their remarkable state of preservation and for the history of their collection. Dr. Marcel Heckenroth, chief physician of the Colonial Troops but also administrator of the Oyapock district, cared for the various populations of this region while exploring the river's sources during scientific expeditions. He recorded his journeys in notebooks, making very precise topographic surveys and photographing the places and the peoples encountered: numerous documents testify to this man’s interest in Indigenous populations and their environment. Marcel Heckenroth, considered the “rediscoverer of the Wayampi,” leads us to meet these Amerindian populations living along the Oyapock. + Alain Gheerbrant: The Amazon, a Wounded Giant – Découvertes Gallimard – Aventures 1988 in 16mo, 12.5 x 17.7 cm., paperback, 192 pages, richly illustrated in color and in black and white, condition: very good Protective packaging, fast and trackable shipping.
