AN M1927 PATTERN IRISH CIVIL DEFENCE STEEL HELMET. A Vickers 1927 pattern steel helmet, similar in design to the German 1916 model, with the addition of clips to take an Officer's pattern regimental cap badge to the front. With internal liner with leather banc and three pads, with unclear stamped marks including 'H988 V 27' with brown leather chin strap. Vickers & Co. Ltd of London were given an order for 5,000 helmets, originally painted dark green they were replaced by the British Mark II model, those still available were painted white for use by various emergency services.
