Antique Art Deco Ring with Refurbished Gemstones, c. 1925 & Later

The type of ring with a platinum display side and large, flat ring face emerged towards the end of the Belle Époque and reached its full bloom during the Art Deco period of the 1920s. This shield shape - whether round-oval or rectangular - corresponded to the era's preference for jewelry designs whose surfaces seemed to dissolve completely in the white light. The basic shape of the shield also provided an ideal stage for the filigree processing techniques of the time. The present ring is also based on an elongated, oval shape. Today, a towering cone of amethyst rises up from the center of the ring. Fine shadow gaps structure the oval surface with C-sweeps set with a total of six brilliant-cut diamonds and fan-shaped openings. A solid yellow gold ring band complements the design, while the antique ring face is platinum-plated. The shape and workmanship show that the piece of jewellery was created around 1925, but the gemstones and ring band have been renewed in more recent times, as can be seen in the details of the workmanship and, for example, the modern cuts of the diamonds. Thanks to these restorations, the ring can now be worn again without any worries. The ring came to us here in Berlin.
