Alle Auktionen / Teppiche & Textilien / Antique Cloudband Kazak Rug, South Caucasus, late 19th century - 7
Curated collection of antique, vintage and modern rugs Antique Cloudband Kazak Rug, South Caucasus, late 19th century Size: 7 ft 2 in x 5 ft 1 in (2.18 m x 1.54 m) Provenance: New York private collector A charismatic Cloudband Kazak centered upon the dramatic curled motifs that give this distinctive Caucasian group its name. Derived from older Asian cloud forms but transformed by Caucasian weavers into a powerful geometric vocabulary, these motifs create a composition of exceptional movement and visual rhythm. The strong proportions, graphic drawing and saturated contrasts embody the qualities most admired in collectible Caucasian village rugs. Small secondary devices may be read as highly abstracted floral, animal or protective symbols, reflecting a visual tradition transmitted between generations rather than copied from a formal cartoon. Condition Request Condition Report Lot #403 is in very good condition. The pile is full and even, with no visible signs of wear. Both ends are complete and hand-secured, and the sides are secured. There is no dryness in the foundation. The rug is clean and floor-ready. Please contact our rug experts at auction@nazmiyal.com or call us for any questions you may have at 212.545.8029.
