Antique Edwardian Amethyst and Pearl Pendant in Gold, British, c. 1910

This pendant comes from an era full of refined aesthetic sensibility. Rilke's poems, Debussy's softly shimmering Suite Bergamasque, the so-called soft paintings of the KPM porcelains, the dreamscapes of the symbolist artists: the Belle Époque was a last celebration of ethereal beauty and receptivity to subtle moods before the great world wars were to sweep brutally across Europe. This piece is also presented in dreamy twilight colors. The pendant is made of slightly reddish, not too bright gold, which has been worked into an abstract, peacock-like design. Small, shimmering pearls and violet-colored amethysts are set into it. The lower amethyst, which is movably mounted under the pendant like a pearly drop of violet perfume, has a very unconventional and at the same time beautiful cut: it does not have a table, but its upper side is faceted. We discovered the beautiful pendant in London. A typical piece of jewellery from the Edwardian Era, which we complemented with a delicate gold chain.
