Alle Auktionen / Schmuck und Edelsteine / Antique Gold Ring with Five High-Quality Australian Opals, Chester 1903

With its combination of five iridescent opals and gleaming yellow gold, this ring is a vibrant eye-catcher. Its design as a so-called “five-stone ring” is typical of the late Victorian era, when opals from distant Australia first reached the English motherland and took the island by storm—even though this ring was created shortly thereafter, when Edward VII What was already King of the Empire. The opals in this ring are of particularly good quality. Opals are often milky or pale; here, however, the stones are completely filled with green and blue flashes of light that shift with every movement and, like a kaleidoscope, never cease to fascinate. The ring, crafted from high-karat yellow gold, features the opals arranged so that they grow larger toward the center. Its flat design also makes the piece of jewellery particularly comfortable to wear. The ring was crafted in 1903 in the English city of Chester, as revealed by the complete hallmark on the ring band. The ring came to us from London.
