Antique inspired Fountain - Studio dell' antico del prof

Splendid patinated bronze sculpture depicting the "Boy Strangling the Goose", famous iconography drawn from the masterpiece of Hellenistic sculpture attributed to Boeto of Chalcedon. The work bears on the right side of the base the important period engraving "Studio dell'Antico del prof. Rutelli", attesting to its direct provenance from the workshop of the renowned Palermo sculptor Mario Rutelli (1859-1941), a master of international standing active at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Notable feature: The sculpture is designed to be used as a central fountain element or jet. Under the base there is the entry hole of the original water conduit that runs through the entire bronze structure to converge in the two era outlet holes situated on the beak of the animal. Conditions The object presents itself in good aesthetic and structural condition, characterized by a beautiful and deep original dark patina of the period. There are evident and typical casting defects in the space between the legs of the boy (small craters and metal porosity due to the artisanal foundry casting process). These imperfections do not compromise the structural stability of the work, do not affect the internal water conduit and attest to its historic manufacture and authenticity. Slight and normal signs of time and minimal patina loss along the outer edges of the base. Origin Italy, Palermo.
