Alle Auktionen / Sonstige / Antonio Martínez Llobregad (1900-1976) - Roses en fleurs
An attractive oil on canvas by the Alicante painter Antonio Martínez Llobregad (1900-1976), in which an elegant bouquet of roses is arranged in a ceramic vase. The work fully integrates into the Spanish tradition of floral still life, interpreted through a delicate, luminous painting and careful construction. The composition centers around the vase, placed in the middle and resting on a blue canvas with broad folds. From this container unfolds a abundant array of roses at different stages of opening, forming an ascending and balanced structure. The irregular distribution of the flowers avoids stiffness and brings naturalness, rhythm, and movement to the whole. The artist gives special prominence to the roses, resolved with a rich range of pinks, coral, salmon, and reddish tones. The brushwork, visible and modulated, describes the petals with ease, alternating zones of greater definition with others more synthetic. This procedure provides volume and freshness to the flowers without slipping into overly meticulous description. The work presents an essentially realistic language, enriched by a free brushwork and a sensibility close to decorative post-impressionism. Color and the pictorial matter play a fundamental role, especially in the corollas, where overlapping touches create a vibrant and luminous surface. The vase is treated with special attention to its material qualities. Its surface blends reddish, gray, brown tones and light reflections suggesting a sober glazed ceramic. Front lighting creates a point of light on the container and reinforces its volume, while the shadow projected on the canvas helps anchor it within the space. The blue canvas introduces an intense chromatic contrast with the warm hues of the flowers and the vase. Its folds, resolved through gradations of blue, gray, and turquoise, add depth to the foreground and visually frame the composition. The light, neutral background, in turn, allows the bouquet to stand out more clearly. The painting is signed “A. Martínez Llobregad” in the lower left margin. For its chromatic harmony, its careful execution, and the timeless appeal of its subject, it constitutes a representative work of Spanish floral painting of the 20th century, with notable artistic and decorative interest. The work is framed. The frame will be shipped free of charge as a courtesy, with no commercial value, and its condition will not be a ground for complaint. It is recommended to carefully study all photographs before bidding, as they are an essential part of the description and faithfully show the conservation status of the work and the frame.
