Alle Auktionen / Sport & Freizeit / Apple re-capped "CLASSIC II" bundle (35-years...
"CLASSIC II" = The last of the Mohicans! = The SE/30 sequel [ this vintage Mac is NOT often auctioned > especially not "fully working"! ] // Apple Macintosh Classic II – Fully Operational – Recapped – Original Hard Drive A rare opportunity to acquire a fully operational Apple Macintosh Classic II, complete with its original Apple Extended Keyboard and Apple Mouse II. Finding a Classic II that is still working is becoming increasingly difficult in 2026. Finding one with a working original mechanical hard drive, a serviced floppy drive and both boards already recapped makes this an especially interesting example for collectors and vintage Macintosh enthusiasts. >> FORWORD Please don't make any assumptions, but READ the (full) accompanying text – and look at (all) the photos "very carefully" to avoid disappointments. Before continuing reading, ask yourself: "What is a RETRO-COMPUTING without Software & Games"? Being an Apple enthusiast, I have collected RARE and VALUABLE hardware and software for my co-sentimental Apple companions. The lucky Macintosh Apple enthusiast can supplement his/her collection with this legendary collector's item: the “Macintosh CLASSIC II” packed with "tons of pre-installed software and games of yesteryear", ready to use – and to give you a glimp of Apple's history. Introduced in October 1991, as an upgraded Classic and a replacement for the Macintosh SE/30. The Classic II (FYI: the consumer version of the Classic II is the Performa 200 – or “Performa 1” in Europe, “Classic Mono” in Australia and "Deluxe II" in Japan / Asia) uses the same 16 MHz 68030 CPU as the SE/30. The Classic II was the last Mac to use a 9 inch monochrome display. // IMPORTANT – WHY BUY FROM ME? (instead of other sellers) I am a Mac user from way back in the Legacy Era. I offer Vintage Apple computers as I would buy them myself. My admiration for Steve Jobs' legacy is so great that I want the Macs I sell, to stand "the test of time". Furthermore I only sell items I have "passion" for. Hardware-wise, all my sold computers are completely disassembled, cleaned – and, if necessary, repaired – in order to extend their lifespan. In fact, the Motherboard and Logicboard of this specific Macintosh Computer are RECAPPED. So you can enjoy this machine for the next decades to come. // ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST, BATTERY ACID & RECAPPING – DUST: the inside of a 30-year-old computer looks the same as "the collection-container of a vacuum cleaner" (read: a dust bunny). And as you know "dust" can ruin your electronics; – LEAKS: 30-year-old batteries will someday leak, causing irreversible damage to the computer. The old battery is removed and replaced by a brand-new battery; – BOARD REVISION: both boards (analog + logic) were revised and recapped (thus: the non-functioned electrolytic capacitors were replaced). – REFURBISHED FLOPPY DRIVE: the floppy drive is refurbished. This includes "floppy drive lubrication". Therefore the "internal floppy drive" works like a charm (formatting, reading and writing disks and of-course ejecting*). Usually the "EJECT* mechanism" fails. So the famous paperclip method is NOT needed for this Mac*! Long-Story Short. Computers from other vendors may look the same on the outside. I can guarantee you that the inside is very different! So if you want to enjoy your investment for as long as possible, choosing "wisely" is advisable. Furthermore. All configuration is done. Thus: Plug & Play! // Fully serviced and operational This Macintosh Classic II has received important preventative maintenance: – Logic board fully recapped – Analog board fully recapped – Floppy disk drive serviced – Original mechanical hard drive still working – 4 MB RAM installed – System tested and fully operational The computer is supplied with the following original peripherals: – Apple Extended Keyboard – Model M0115 – Apple Mouse II – Model M2706, the round ergonomic version // Original hard drive – deliberately preserved The original mechanical hard drive has not been reformatted. There are two reasons for this. – First, the drive still works. Secondly, it contains interesting vintage software waiting to be discovered by the new owner. We have deliberately left the drive in its original state rather than erasing this part of the machine's history. – There is also a practical reason for leaving the drive untouched: experience has shown that formatting very old mechanical hard drives can sometimes be the final thing they survive. A drive that has been spinning reliably for decades may fail during or shortly after a reformat. The buyer is therefore free to reformat the drive, but does so entirely at their own risk. No guarantee is given that the original hard drive will continue to work after formatting. The Macintosh currently runs a Dutch-language system. // Cosmetic condition – original vintage patina Please note that the housing, keyboard and mouse have developed noticeable yellowing/discoloration over the years. This is typical of vintage Apple equipment from this period and is related to the ageing of the plastics and the chemicals, including bromine compounds, used in the plastic at the time. The discoloration is not uniform, resulting in the characteristic vintage patina visible on the machine and its peripherals. Please study the photographs carefully to get a good impression of the actual condition. We have deliberately not tried to make the machine look artificially new. What you see is the original vintage character of this Classic II. // A small display quirk when starting up When the Macintosh is switched on from cold, the image on the CRT initially shows some movement or "dancing". This lasts for a short period while the machine warms up. After warming up, the image stabilises and the issue disappears. This behaviour is therefore disclosed as part of the condition of the machine and should be taken into account by potential buyers. // GERM-FREE APPLE EXTENDED KEYBOARD II (M0115) & ADB MOUSE II (M2706) The Macintosh comes with the accompanying keyboard and (rounded) mouse. Those objects alone are already worth a fortune on auction websites. The keyboard (and mouse) are completely disassembled and cleaned professionally (see pictures). In my opinion it is my responsibility (as a seller) to provide a Germ-Free keyboard (a 2018 study found that 96% of the keyboards were contaminated with bacteria). So, I think we can agree that nobody wants a nasty, infected keyboard. This 100 % working, professionally checked “Vintage” bundle includes “working software*”. FYI: some pictures show another Keyboard & Mouse (pictures were taken at the moment that the Keyboard & Mouse were cleaned and refurbished). But don't worry … this bundle defenitly comes with the superior "Apple Extended Keyboard II" and ergonomic rounded mouse. // SOME HISTORY & CONTEXT I want to take a trip back "thirty years". The Macintosh CLASSIC II was sold in 1991 (more then 30 years ago). From its compact size to its 1-bit black and white display, the Mac Classic's adorable form factor is one to be celebrated. The Classic was one of a few models that represented something "STREAMLINED". For me the Classic’s "purity-of-line" is truly special. Everything extraneous is stripped away – leaving you with just the essence of the computer. Look at how "its face" tilts up towards you, at once a smart practical trick to make the screen easier to see on a computer which will sit below your eye-line, and an evocation of nothing so much as a puppy looking up at you, begging to play. The CLASSIC II was comparable to the Mac SE/30 (= a streamlined and curvy repackage of the Macintosh SE/30) – and featured several improvements over the aging Macintosh PLUS, which it replaced. It was up to 25% faster than the Plus, and included an Apple SuperDrive 3.5-inch floppy disk drive as standard. It’s easy to pick up and transport from place to place. And oh, how lovely that handle feels! The thickness and solidity of the handle that you curl your fingers around, which both makes it easy to grip and makes it feel substantial, nudges you to reflect every time you pick up the Classic II that it is a quality piece of hardware. That feeling persists when you switch it on. The switch itself – easy to locate by touch – makes the most pleasing, positive, unmistakable thunk when you flick it. When you do, you get that reassuring beep and then a businesslike whir as it boots; it feels like you’ve woken something up. The cathode ray tube sleepily warms up, and before long you’re greeted with the happy Mac icon. And that screen! That dinky, sharp, perfect little screen! There’s something fundamentally honest and pure about a 1-bit, black and white display, and the crispness of the pixels is a genuine delight even in these days of pixels so tiny we can’t actually see them. I’ll never stop loving the 1-bit interface design of these early Macs. It’s clean and spare and elegant, it still has bags of personality and charm. So yes, I completely adore the Classic form factor. It’s such a captivating, self-contained bundle of happiness. So compact, so totable. It was described by MacWeek as a "fine replacement for the Macintosh Plus" that best embodies "the original Macintosh vision" six-and-a-half-years-later. // MORE INFORMATION This bundle includes: – the Macintosh CLASSIC II – model 4150 [with ORIGINAL 1991 SCSI hard drive – and 1.44 MB "SuperDrive" disk drive, assembled in Ireland]; – Apple Extended Keyboard; – Coiled Keyboard cable; – Apple Desktop rounded Mouse, one Button Vintage ADB; – Power cable (European); – Lots of rare RETRO software & games installed on de hard disk; – The "world-famous" pixel-art picture of "Stef Jobs". The Macintosh CLASSIC II has the following built-in ports: – ADB (Apple Desktop Bus) port; – DB-19 floppy drive port; – DB-25 SCSI port; – serial modem port; – serial printer port; – sound input; – sound output. The CLASSIC II is arguably one of the products that can be said to have turned Apple’s fortunes around. And that makes this Apple Computer extremely RARE and EXCEPTIONAL … and therefore a good investment. In addition, the CLASSICSs that are typically sold have several cracks. This specimen has no single crack in the plastic (= unique). – Model Number: M4150 (assembled in Ireland); // VINTAGE ITEMS As these are "vintage items", they are being sold as. Normal signs of use and wear (some scratches). But as an experienced connoisseur I can guarantee that these items are in VERY GOOD condition. The numerous images are part of the meticulous description. Thus: judge yourself! Note: – The internal floppy drive works like a charm (formatting, reading disks, eject). That is unique! Usually the "EJECT mechanism" fails. So the famous paperclip method isn't needed for this Mac! // VINTAGE COMPUTER EXPECTATIONS Vintage Macintosh computers that are typically sold are very "yellowed" and have lots of cracks. Except for some normal (after 30-years) tiny imperfections, this MAC is in very good condition! However, please have realistic expectations when buying a vintage computer. As these are "vintage items", they are being sold as. Normal signs of use and wear. But as an experienced connoisseur I can guarantee that these items are in VERY GOOD condition (always keeping in mind their age). The numerous images are part of the meticulous description. Thus: judge yourself! Be aware. All mechanical parts (including hard drive, fan, floppy disk, etc) make more noice than you are use to, compared with modern equipment. But this is “normal” behavior. Obviously this is a 30 year old machine. The speed is therefore corresponding. Again. This is NOT a modern machine (inform yourself about possibilities). // IMPORTANT – A NOTE ON YELLOWED PLASTICS! Some words on the yellowing. Old computer cases are made of ABS plastics which contain at that time "BROMINE". The element bromine reacts over the time of years with UV light and causes (not-even) "yellowing"*. The bromine yellowing is not even. I mean. Some parts age differently (see detailled pictures). Furthermore. Depending on "lightning" … some pictures looks more light/gray that reality. I can assure you that the case is "yellowed"! To sum up. These are vintage museums-like items! Take into account the fact that the plastic case shows "some stains" en "cosmetical imperfections" that are unfortunately difficult to capture. But they are there! Please, if you find the aforementioned "stains" and "imperfections" a problem, it is recommended that you do NOT bid on this item. Again … the yellowed plastic* is not easy to capture on camera. FYI/ Experienced collectors love the "aging-bromine-yellowing". You can compare it with "patina" on vintage furnitures. For connoisseurs it transforms the-surface-of-a-piece from the ordinary to the exceptional – and it tells a story … and brings on the appeal of objects that show their age openly. But again … it is important to know that this specific Mac has PATINA. Important notes: FYI: due to old age – the 4 rubber feet underneath the case – went very sticky and bad (I had to remove them … to keep the rest of the machine "clean"). But if needed, online there are plenty alternative adhesive "bumpon feet". >>> Some plusses: – In general, the weak point of the Classic is that the sound no longer works. The sounds of this Classic still works (= unique)! > because of the recapping; – There is no single crack in the plastic (computer, keyboard, mouse) = UNIQUE! // A rare piece of Macintosh history The Macintosh Classic II was introduced in 1991 and represents one of the final compact Macintosh models of the classic era. After more than three decades, a Classic II that is still fully operational, retains its original working mechanical hard drive, has a serviced floppy drive, and has had both its logic and analog boards recapped is becoming increasingly uncommon. This is not a freshly restored reproduction or a modernised machine. It is an authentic vintage Macintosh that has been serviced where necessary while retaining much of its original character — including its original hard drive and vintage software. A particularly interesting opportunity for collectors of Apple Macintosh hardware, vintage computing and 1990s computer history. Please examine all photographs carefully. They form an important part of the description and show the cosmetic condition, discoloration and included accessories. // PACKAGING & SHIPPING The CLASSIC II bundle is packaged securely and carefully for safe shipment. Moreover, the CLASSIC II bundle is shipped INSURED because of its precious value. Because of the precious content extra attention is paid to the CUSTOM packaging. The extra cost is included in the shipping price. "One More Thing" – Steve Jobs quote Don't miss this unique opportunity. Great opportunities don't come everyday! Let the bidding begin … for this "Macintosh Classic II" at more-then-30. An iconic Apple computer! "One More Thing" When in doubt, check my positive customer reviews ;) (… because there are some "copycats" out there, who copy my style and pretend to be me). By-the-way: There is only one "VISENTO"! That's me ;) PS/ the woz/jobs picture is no part of the deal!
