It's becoming more and more challenging to find a "100% functional" Vintage Apple/Macintosh PLUS ED ! Especially in "VERY GOOD CONDITION" & "FULLY RECAPED". Being an Apple enthusiast, I have collected RARE and VALUABLE hardware and software for my co-sentimental Apple companions. The lucky Macintosh Apple enthusiast can supplement his/her collection with this legendary collector's item: the “Macintosh PLUS”. The model for the educational market was named "Macintosh Plus ED" (ED-ucation). UNIQUE to this particular computer are “the engraved signatures” of the original Macintosh team - including the signature of “STEVE JOBS” - inside the CASE. The Macintosh team found the original Macintosh ART - and they saw themselves as ARTISTS. When you open “the case”, you understand why. This is the third model in the Macintosh line, introduced January 16, 1986 - two years after the original Macintosh (1984) and one year after the Macintosh 512K. Price tag at the time was US $ 2599 (equivalent of $ 6,062 in 2020). // IMPORTANT – WHY BUY FROM ME? (instead of other sellers) I am a Mac user from way back in the Legacy Era. I offer Vintage Apple computers as I would buy them myself. My admiration for Steve Jobs' legacy is so great that I want the Macs I sell, to stand "the test of time". Furthermore I only sell items I have "passion" for. Hardware-wise, all my sold computers are completely disassembled, cleaned – and, if necessary, repaired – in order to extend their lifespan. See pictures. // ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST & BATTERY ACID – DUST: the inside of a 30-year-old computer (and keyboard and mouse) looks the same as "the collection-container of a vacuum cleaner" (read: a dust bunny). And as you know "dust" can ruin your electronics; – LEAKS: 30-year-old batteries will someday leak, causing irreversible damage to the computer. The battery is removed (FYI: online you can buy a new 4.5V battery for date/time settings. Please let me know if you need help finding the right battery, however a battery is not required to use this computer). To preserve the computer for the future it is even better to not place a new battery; – BOARD REVISION: both boards (analog + logic) were revised (thus: the non-functioned electrolytic capacitors were replaced). – REFURBISHED: the floppy drive is refurbished. This includes "floppy drive lubrication". Therefore the "internal floppy drive" works (formatting, reading and writing disks). But the "EJECT* mechanism" fails. So the famous paperclip method is needed for this Mac (to eject a floppy)! It don't find this a problem cause a Plus always needs it's operating system. To add functionality you can acquire an external floppy disk driver or external hard disc. // GERM-FREE "RARE" M0110A AZERTY KEYBOARD [ M0100 MOUSE NOT INCLUDED ] The Macintosh comes with the accompanying keyboard (and keyboard cable). Those objects alone are already worth a fortune on auction websites. The keyboard is completely disassembled and cleaned professionally (see pictures). In my opinion it is my responsibility (as a seller) to provide a Germ-Free keyboard (a 2018 study found that 96% of the keyboards were contaminated with bacteria). So, I think we can agree that nobody wants a nasty, infected keyboard. Extra information: – ALL KEYS WORK! (lot of vintage keyboard's don't work – this one is "fully repaired")! Be aware that you need to press the mechanical keys harder (especially after long inactivity). // IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING THE KEYBOARD AND SYSTEM LANGUAGE This Apple Plus is supplied with an AZERTY keyboard, while the installed system on floppy is English. As a result, some of the keys shown on the keyboard will not correspond to the characters produced by the English system. If the successful bidder prefers, I can provide a French system on floppy disk instead, which will ensure that the keyboard layout corresponds correctly to the AZERTY keyboard. English-speaking collectors who wish to retain an English-language system may also consider sourcing a non-working QWERTY Plus keyboard separately and replacing the keycaps, thereby creating a more suitable English-language configuration. Please take this keyboard/system-language combination into account when bidding. // Important Notice: M0100 MOUSE NOT INCLUDED The DB-9 mouse shown in some of the photographs is NOT included in this auction and is not part of the sale. The successful bidder will need to obtain a compatible DB-9 mouse separately from another source if required. The Macintosh Plus system and AZERTY keyboard included in this listing have been fully serviced, tested, and are in working condition. However, the system is being sold without a mouse. By placing a bid, the bidder acknowledges and accepts that the DB-9 mouse visible in certain images is shown for demonstration and testing purposes only and is expressly excluded from the items offered in this auction. // FREE SOFTWARE* This 100 % working, professionally checked “Vintage” bundle includes “working software*”. English versions on two DD Floppy Disks, including: – MacWrite (version 4.5, April 4, 1985) – MacPaint – MacDraw (version 0.9.4, August 14, 1984) – Steve Jobs Drawing The (aforementioned) software was released along the first Apple Macintosh systems in 1984. "MacWrite" and "MacPaint" were two original "killer applications" that propelled the adoption and popularity of the Mac in particular. >> Disclaimer: The computer only includes software & games that is classified as "abandonware" (= from the Public Domain, distributed over the internet and available freely, easily and readily). The software is supplied "free of charge" as a free service (for the retro-computing fan). All floppies are digital copies of the original Plus 800 kb floppy disk. FYI I ALWAYS use brand-new-(800Kb)-floppies to copy "system & software". Therefore the color is subject to availability at the time of payment. Floppy color can be "blue, black or white". // WHAT MAKES THIS VINTAGE MAC EVEN MORE SPECIAL? The Macintosh Plus was the last classic Mac to feature a “telephone cord-like port” - on the front of the device - for the keyboard; as well as the “DE-9 connector” for the mouse (later models would use ADB ports). That makes this Apple Computer extremely RARE and EXCEPTIONAL … and therefore a good investment. FYI: The RARE keyboard and mouse, they alone are worth the bid (check other websites to have an idea of their prices)! As an evolutionary improvement over the 512K, the PLUS came with 1MB RAM standard, and an external SCSI peripheral bus that launched the popularity of external SCSI devices for Macs (hard drives, tape drives, CD-ROM drives, printers, Zip drives, and even monitors). // THIS BUNDLE INCLUDES: – MACINTOSH PLUS [ED] (all-in-one computer) Model Number: M0110A (Assembled in Ireland) – KEYBOARD Model Number: M0110A (Made in Japan) – Including all required cables (FYI: European power cable); – RETRO software on DD floppy disk (including hard-to-find "Steve Jobs" MacPaint pixel-art). // IMPORTANT As these are "vintage items", they are being sold as. Normal signs of use and wear. But as an experienced connoisseur I can guarantee that these items are in VERY GOOD condition (always keeping in mind their age). The numerous images are part of the meticulous description. Thus: judge yourself! // IMPORTANT – A NOTE ON YELLOWED PLASTICS! Some words on the yellowing. Old computer cases are made of ABS plastics which contain at that time "BROMINE". The element bromine reacts over the time of years with UV light and causes (not-even) "yellowing"*. The bromine yellowing is not even. I mean. Some parts age differently. Take into account the fact that the plastic case shows "some stains" en "cosmetical imperfections" that are unfortunately difficult to capture (on photo). But they are there! Again … the yellowed plastic* is not easy to capture on camera. Please, if you find the aforementioned "imperfections" a problem, it is recommended that you do NOT bid on this item. Please leave it for other mac-fans! PS/ there is an inscription (top of computer that reads "GELD"), see detailed picture. FYI/ Experienced collectors love the "aging-bromine-yellowing". You can compare it with "patina" on vintage furnitures. For connoisseurs it transforms the-surface-of-a-piece from the ordinary to the exceptional – and it tells a story … and brings on the appeal of objects that show their age openly. But again … it is important to know that this specific Mac has PATINA. Be aware. All mechanical parts make more noice than you are use to, compared with modern equipment. But this is “normal” behavior. Obviously this is a 30 year old machine. The speed is therefore corresponding. FYI: When the computer has not been used for a long time, the CRT screen may be vibrate a little. That is "normal" vintage CRT behaviour. The vibrating stops after the CRT warms up. // PACKAGING & SHIPPING The PLUS bundle is packaged securely and carefully for safe shipment. Moreover, the PLUS bundle is shipped INSURED because of its precious value. Because of the precious content extra attention is paid to the CUSTOM packaging.
