Arnold Borisovich Lakhovsky (1880–1937), Attrib. - Paris

Description of the work: • Artist: Arnold Borisovich Lakhovsky (1880–1937), painter of Ukrainian/Jewish origin, a prominent figure of Russian Impressionism and the early School of Paris (École de Paris). • Title of the work: Paris 1926 (Urban Parisian View) • Date/Period: 1926 • Medium and support: Oil on cardboard • Attribution: Historically attributed to Arnold Borisovich Lakhovsky (bearing provenance gallery markings and label). Dimensions: • Cardboard only (image): 25 × 17.5 cm Details of signature and inscriptions: • Signed and titled by the artist at the lower right. Provenance and Documentation: • The work historically comes from the famous Raydon Gallery in New York (gallery founded by Alexander R. Raydon, noted for its important collection of European and Eastern European art from the late 19th to the early 20th century). On the back there are references and historical labels attesting to its provenance and market passage. Stile and historical significance: The painting dates to 1926, a year of exceptional importance in Lakhovsky's artistic trajectory, coinciding with his move to Paris (1925), his solo show at Galerie Tédesco, and the first official purchases by the French state for the Musée du Luxembourg. The style is a perfect example of European Post-Impressionism: a dynamic city view, characterized by a rapid, thick impasto brushwork. The artist masterfully captures the atmospheric sensibility, the light, and the bustle of everyday life on the Paris boulevards of the era through a sober palette yet rich in luminous vibrations. Conditions: • Overall condition: Very good, in line with the period of the work. The color retains its original brightness and the impasto remains well adhered to the support. No obvious restorations, paint lifts, or significant structural damage to the cardboard are evident. Please view the attached photo gallery, which is an integral part of the description, to closely examine the conservation status, surface details, and the back of the cardboard.
