Artemide - Vico Magistretti - Table lamp - Eclipse...

Artemide Eclisse PVD Gold – Vico Magistretti | 1965 | Gold finish Artemide Eclisse PVD Gold, the iconic table lamp designed by Vico Magistretti in 1965, is one of the most celebrated and recognizable projects of 20th-century Italian design. Winner of the prestigious Compasso d'Oro in 1967, Eclisse has entered the permanent collections of important international design institutions, including MoMA in New York. Its strength lies in its ability to transform a simple insight into a timeless object, where form, function, and mechanical ingenuity merge perfectly. The project is based on a system composed of a fixed outer housing and a rotating inner shade, which allows manual adjustment of the lamp’s opening and control of the light emission. By rotating the shade, you can go from a more direct light to a progressively shaded one, until achieving the characteristic eclipse effect that gives the model its name. This version is the Eclisse PVD Gold, identified by the original Artemide code 0028150A. The refined gold finish, obtained through PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) technology, gives the lamp’s spherical geometry a shiny and precious metallic surface. The result is a striking balance between the simplicity of the original design and a more sophisticated and contemporary aesthetic. The lamp can be used both as a table lamp and wall-mounted, maintaining, in both configurations, its distinctive manual light-adjustment system. Conditions The exemplar comes from in-store display and shows some light surface marks due to being on display. These are minor imperfections, particularly discreet thanks to the glossy finish. Overall, the lamp preserves its remarkable aesthetic impact and remains a highly magnetic object. A splendid opportunity to add to your collection an icon of Italian design in the coveted PVD Gold version, potentially at a more favorable price than a new piece.
