Attributed to Peter van der Borght (Flemish, 1712–1763) and Jan Frans van der Borght (Flemish, d.1774), a Brussels 'Teniers' wool and silk tapestry depicting villagers around a well, early 18th century, the design based on the works of David Teniers the Younger, but probably woven using cartoons prepared by Jacob van Helmont, Ignatius de Hondt, Theobald Michau or Jacob van Orley, believed to be reduced, the edges bound into a later border, partial 'B B' and red shield for Brussels and Brabant to lower right selvage, the later backing cloth with Velcro to the top edge, 262cm x 220cm overall NOTE: We are advised that an identical tapestry is shown in Marillier (H C), HANDBOOK OF THE TENIERS TAPESTRIES, London 1932, plate 28b.
