The work is famous for its exceptional off-text illustrative apparatus, which includes splendid plates engraved and finely hand-colored at the time, protected by original tissue guards. The plates show in detail the large collars, plaques, crosses, and the medals of the world's most important chivalric orders (including the plate of the famous Order of Leopold of Belgium, visible in the photo).
