Augustin GRISIER (1791–1865, fencing master and author of works on fencing, a close friend of Alexandre Dumas the Elder, who consulted him to ensure the accuracy of his duel scenes) / Signed autograph letter, 1 page, small quarto plus address page, to the actor FIRMIN (François Becquerelle, 1784–1859): Grisier wittily asks for two theater tickets to come see him perform: “If your great talent did not place you above criticism any more than your bravery shields you from a sword thrust, we would force you to give us two tickets for today, Friday —Since we cannot resort to violence, Laugier and I can only ask you not to deny us two pleasures at once by letting us see you perform in a new play.”
