Al-Adil I, younger brother of Saladin, ruled the Ayyubid Sultanate from 1196-1218 AD. After Saladin’s death, he overcame rival heirs, secured Egypt in 1199 AD, and reunited much of the realm, including Egypt, Syria, and parts of Arabia. A skilled commander and diplomat, he strengthened defenses, maintained cautious relations with the Crusaders, and introduced administrative reforms.
