Baptiste Laurent - "Punching woman" (Blackboard serie)

“Punching Woman”, 2014, 140 × 110 cm. Mixed media (collage, ink and acrylic) on paper. Signed, dated and titled on the reverse. Sold unframed and shipped rolled. @baptiste___laurent An exceptional work, never before offered for sale, Punching Woman occupies a singular position within Baptiste Laurent’s artistic practice, both for its unique provenance and its unusual method of creation. The work departs from the artist’s customary approach through the assembly of numerous original drawings taken directly from his sketchbooks and brought together for the first time on a single, large-format surface. Each drawing retains its own graphic identity and narrative presence, featuring characters, symbols and scenes drawn from an imaginative world in constant expansion. Yet, brought together within a unified composition, these fragments establish unexpected connections, forming a work of remarkable visual density. The process transforms the sketchbook—a traditionally intimate, fragmented and provisional space—into an autonomous artwork, in which the accumulation of images becomes the fundamental principle of composition. The result is a kind of chaotic cartography of contemporary experience. Drawings intersect, confront and overlap, evoking a world saturated with information, conflict, contradictions and visual stimuli. The spontaneity of the lines, the diversity of graphic styles and the coexistence of the grotesque, the ironic and the unsettling give the work its distinctive narrative intensity. More than a mere compilation of images, Punching Woman offers a reflection on the fragmentation of reality and the difficulty of establishing a stable order within the incessant flow of representations that characterises contemporary life. Its strength lies precisely in the tension between the multiplicity of individual narratives and the visual unity of the composition. Unprecedented in its market history, distinctive in scale and exceptional in its creative process, this work represents a rare opportunity for collectors to acquire a piece revealing a less familiar and particularly experimental dimension of Baptiste Laurent’s practice. “This lot contains 1 visualization created with AI.
