The founder, Walter Gropius, preached the idea of the synthesis of the arts, noting that painting, architecture and sculpture should be combined to create a "building of the future." In the manifesto of 1919 he declared that "the ultimate goal of all educational activity is to build!" Never mounted and kept in a dark archival storage among protective acid-free paper.
