Beato de Liébana – Códice de Manchester Patrimonio Ediciones. Testimonio notarial 288/999 20 January 2001. With ex libris of Isidro Santiago Rodriguez Measurements: Book: 46.5 x 34 x 6 cm With acrylic box: 50 x 36 x 9 cm Total weight: 10.164 kg The Beato de Liébana – Códice de Manchester. It is an exceptional work that stands out among the Beatos of Liébana for its impressive artistic level, abundance of illuminated illustrations with gold and silver leaf. It stands out among all high-quality facsimiles for being one of the most illustrated. This facsimile impresses not only with its content but also with its size. Each page comes alive with broad dimensions that allow appreciation of every detail of the illustrations and text, making this work a true jewel for collectors. With 510 pages of content, this facsimile of the Beato de Liébana offers a full immersion in the art and vision of the epoch. Each page tells a unique story, taking you on a fascinating journey through medieval spirituality and art, illuminated with gold and silver leaf that bring life and light to the entire manuscript. Significantly this is one of its great differences with other Beato facsimiles of Liébana that do not use authentic gold leaf, but rather gold-toned inks that do not rigorously represent the quality of the original manuscript. Custodian at The John Rylands Library in Manchester since 1901. Ms. Lat. 8. · The Beatus of Manchester passed from Spain to France in 1869, sold at auction in Paris with other books from the collection of the Marquis of Astorga and the Count of Altamira. · Written in late Caroline-Prefogate script (late Carolingian-pre Gothic). · Contains 123 full-page miniatures illuminated with gold and silver. · Commentary on the Apocalypse of Saint John written by Beato de Liébana, an Asturian monk, in the year 776. The various manuscripts that transmit the “Commentary on the Apocalypse” were illustrated in various monasteries during the 10th, 11th and 12th centuries; they are luxury copies decorated for kings and magnates. · Certainly, from the point of view of its illustrations, this is the most sumptuous Beatus of all that exist, the only complete one since none of its folios have been mutilated; for its perfect understanding, it is accompanied by an art book that includes a codicological and iconographic study by Prof. Dr. Peter K. Klein. · Codex bound in leather on panel with bronze clasps and fittings. Edition: Unique and limited edition of 999 copies numbered and notarized.
